   WHAT's a BiPAP Machine?

Funds raised at this year's Gala will be going towards the purchase of a BiPap machine for the Digby General Hospital Emergency.

The addition of a BiPap machine in the DGH Emergency department will:

  • Assist people with cardiopulmonary disorders, such as congestive heart failure, lung disorders or certain neuromuscular disorders; *

  • Help reduce the rate of hospital admissions among people with COPD;*

  • Help a person having a COPD flairup by taking some of the load off a person's breathing muscles and heart, allowing them to breathe more easily. It also boosts oxygen levels and normalizes carbon dioxide levels *

  • A 2015 study by BMC (biomedcentral.com) reports that using a BiPap in an emergency room reduces the need for invasive treatments, improves outcomes and shortens a person's hospital visit. *
