9th Annual Richard Ellis Memorial Golf Tournament raises $17,000 to support purchase of chest compression system for the Digby General Hospital
The Digby and Area Health Service Charitable Foundation hosted the 9th Annual Richard Ellis Memorial Golf Tournament on June 19, 2024.
In the midst of one of the hottest weeks of the year so far, the 24 teams of golfers were extremely lucky with a slight breeze out on the lovely Digby Pines Golf course!
$17,000 was raised to support the purchase of the LUCAS CHEST COMPRESSION SYSTEM for the Digby General Hospital.
Golfers were able to take part in on course challenges such as two, hole in ones (sponsored by Scotiabank and Bruce GM), Longest Drive (Shell), Closest to the Hole (Atlantic Superstore), Putting Contest (Belliveau Motors) and the fan favourite Duck Pond!

Dinner sponsored by RBC, with music by Rachel Maclean welcomed the golfers after a long, hot day out on the course!
Special guest, Former Halifax Moosehead and current coach of the Valley Wildcats, Brandon Benedict, was part of the First Place Scallop Shell Team. Brandon also took part in a one on one coaches corner interview with Mr. Len Hawley of AVR.
THE DAHSCF is committed to promoting a healthy future for Digby and area residents. Areas that the Foundation supports through out the year are purchasing equipment for the Digby General Hospital, providing LPN, nursing and medical school scholarships, and supporting community organizations such as Digby Area Recreation Commission, The Digby Cancer Help Fund Association, The Bear River Health Clinic, Tideview Terrace and more.
The annual golf tournament is held in memory of past Foundation Chair Richard Ellis who was a great supporter of the Digby Community and the golf tournament remains the Foundations primary fundraiser of the year. Mike Bartlett, Chair of the Golf Committee has already started planning for year ten and promises for some new course contests! This event is our largest fundraiser, but also the most fun and a great way to bring the community together and spread good cheer, we really are “GOLFING FOR THE HEALTH OF IT!”.
The Foundation would like to thank all of the golfers, tee box sponsors, donors and volunteers to this event. It is not possible with out the help of so many, who all have the same goal, of supporting a healthy tomorrow in the Digby and area community!
