8th Annual Richard Ellis Memorial Golf Tournament raises $17,000 to support equipment for the Digby General Hospital
The Digby and Area Health Service Charitable Foundation hosted the 8th Annual Richard Ellis Memorial Golf Tournament on June 22, 2023. We were extremely lucky as after a beautiful, sunny and breezy day out on the course, we were hit with two weeks of much needed rain! $17,000 was raised at this years tournament which hosted 24 teams!
Golfers were able to take part in on course challenges such as the Hole in one, Longest Drive, Closest to the Hole, Putting Contest and the fan favourite Duck Pond! The funds this year will go towards six pressure relieving mattresses and 4 air pumps for the Digby General Hospital!
The dinner which was sponsored by RBC was greatly appreciated after a long day out on the course! Special guest Mark Smith delivered a powerful and inspirational speech after golfing with the Scallop Shell team! Mark has won gold medals at four Pan-Am Games, was named Nova Scotia’s Softball Coach of the year, twice, after his return to coaching in his native province, and was inducted into the Softball Canada Hall of Fame in 1999; now a part of Sport Nova Scotia, we thank Mark for his continued work to support SPORT in Nova Scotia and joining us Golf for a healthy tomorrow!
THE DAHSCF is committed to promoting a healthy future for Digby and area residents. The Foundation does this by supporting the purchase of equipment for the Digby General Hospital, providing nursing and medical school scholarships, and supporting community organizations such as Digby Area Recreation Commission, The Digby Cancer Help Fund Association, The Bear River Health Clinic, Tideview Terrace and more.
The annual golf tournament is held in memory of past Foundation Chair Richard Ellis who was a great supporter of the Digby Community and the golf tournament remains the Foundations primary fundraiser of the year. Plans are underway for the 9th annual tournament to be held next year.
The Foundation would like to thank all of the golfers, tee box sponsors, donors and volunteers to this event. It is not possible with out the help of so many, who all have the same goal, of supporting a healthy tomorrow in the Digby and area community!
